New Offering

I have had this idea in my mind for a while now.  I decided to take advantage of the snow days and spend some time trying out my idea for “simple black and white” portrait session.  Who better to practice on then my daughter.  She loves having her picture taken and she was spot on with what I wanted to do. I wanted light and shadow (normally i hate shadows but for this I had a vision) and I do believe I have achieved what I was going for.  i love the classic look of these images.  If your interested in a simple black and white portrait session, shoot me an email or text or you can call me and we can set something up 🙂

As always you can see more of my work on my website.  Follow me on facebook for current specials and up to date info 🙂

Its been a while

Well here it is December and I haven’t bloggity blogged since July ish… So much for that New Years resolution to blog more.  Oh well maybe next year will be a better blog year.  I just might have to take a bit of time this winter and get caught up on blogging.  Any way with Christmas coming I wanted to take a moment and share this photo with you all.  It  was a hit on my Facebook page so maybe it will be a hit elsewhere too 🙂 I hope you get a giggle out of this picture, I know I sure did.  The holidays tend to make a lot of people feel just like this 🙂 This is the second time I have gotten to photo this adorable little girl  and the second time for her handsome older brother.  The family is beyond sweet and so caring.  I look forward to watching these kids grow up 🙂

Family on the Fourth

Every 4th of July I get the pleasure of visiting with family I only get to see that time of year, and for the past 2 years I have gotten to spend a couple hours with Rachel and my camera.  This girl is so photogenic and I believe she can read my mind as to what I am wanting her to do.  I had so much fun with her (even though it was so so so hot this year) and I managed to get some awesome shots!  I am in awe of her.  She sings, plays guitar (among other instruments), she is super artistic and just a sweet girl.  This year I had kind of a theme I wanted to go with for the photos and asked her to bring her guitar and some hippy type clothes and she knew just what I wanted.  I am no where near done going through the images and editing them but I couldn’t wait to post these.  If I could I would post every one of them but that might be overkill 🙂

You can check out more of my stuff on my facebook page and I even offer specials over there 🙂

Senior Ambassador

I recently had a couple sessions with Taylor, she is a senior ambassador for me and we had so much fun.  She is beautiful and so sweet and made my day.  The second session was soooooo hot but she totally rocked it and the images turned out great if I do say so myself 🙂  If you know a 2013 senior who would like a chance at discounted senior session and a chance to earn free prints then send them my way and maybe they will be picked to be a senior ambassador.  Any way take a second and check these out 🙂

As usual you can see more of my work on my website or check me out on facebook.

The whole world awaits.

I remember being a senior…. the excitement of being the big fish in the pond, the nervousness of having to “grow up” and make decisions, the anxiety of picking a field to go into.   Homecoming dances and games, Saturday night with your friends, prom and graduation.  All exciting times.  When I was a senior the senior portraits were way more formal and stiff.  I am so glad I get to capture the personality of the kids and not stiff formal poses.  This session was a lot of fun and she is so pretty and sweet I know she has a bright future ahead of her 🙂

Little ones

When I photograph little ones I get all excited.  Who am I kidding I get all excited when I photo pretty much anything!! Any way little ones crack me up.  there are so many different ages that have different special places in my heart.  When they are about 3 months old and learning to smile, when they are about 6-9 months old and sitting up but can’t get away from me yet haha.  Then you get a year old and they are standing and taking first steps and you get the look of awe on their face and once again my heart melts.  The toddler and preschool years are fun because their personality really comes out!! Sometimes that makes my job a lot harder as they don’t want to smile or do what I ask of them and by the time I am done I am completely exhausted.  However when I pull those images into my computer it makes all the exhaustion disappear.  I truly love what I do and I can’t say that enough.

I don’t have any formal education in photography just an intense drive to learn all I can from what ever source I can.  Part of me wants to go to school for it but then I ask myself if I really want someone telling me how to do things, and the answer is usually no haha.  They would probably tell me that my technique is all wrong and tell me I have to change.  I am not against criticism but my technique seems to work pretty good for me and my customers so for now, no formal education for me just my drive 🙂

Here are some of my favorite photos from little one’s sessions.  Of course I have entirely too many to post on here so as usual you can see more of them at www.jasphotos.net   I have a super crazy weekend with 6 sessions in a couple days along with traveling so my next blog may not be in the near future 🙂 bear with me on this its still really new.

My favorite things to photograph

People often ask me what my favorite thing to photograph is, heck I ask myself that all the time too.  The best answer I can come up with is PEOPLE, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, youngsters, seniors, couples.  I know that is a vague answer but I can’t say babies because I love catching the laughter in a toddler or preschooler just as much.  I can’t say just seniors either because I love getting couples too.    I like doing scenery and odd things too but people are what gets my giddy going.  When I capture the serious little face of a toddler, or the all out laughter on someones face it makes my day.

I love being able to get creative with peoples photos too.  Like taking a senior photo on a rail road track in a prom dress, or with a paper umbrella in a dirty dingy alley.  Sometimes people look at me a little funny when I say I want to do this but then they see the finished product and end up loving it as much as I do!!

The next few blogs will be about my favorites from each type of photo session.   Here are some samples of some of my favorite senior photos.  Of course I have TONS of other favorites but can’t get them all on here.  You might notice that there are only girls on here.  There is a reason for that.  I NEED guys to photograph.  Girls are awesome and I have a total blast and can relate to them but I would like the chance to photo some males 🙂

Pros and Cons

I have debated having a blog for quite some time now.  I have weighed the pros and cons over and over.  I am not eloquent with words and I tend to stumble over what I want to say.  Not to mention the fact I am not the best with punctuation and grammar.  Then I thought heck with it.  I am who I am, take me or leave me.  I wanted to be able to say more than a few words about a session or a photo or a client that touches me and this is the best way to go about it.  So here I am, I am a “blogger”.  (by the way, this is the 3rd time I have tried to write this, third time is a charm so they say) Now lets see how do I add some photos?  I figure I can post and catch up with past sessions and thoughts.  Lets start with the most recent wedding.  David and Vanessa had a beautiful day that was full of laughs and good times.  I felt totally honored to be the one to capture it for them.  Here are a few of their photos.
